Hardwood or Laminate?

Well, Mrs. Sculpey and I are embarking on a home remodel. Part of the plan includes tearing up the carpeting and putting in new floors. Does anyone have hardwood or laminate floors, and what are the pros and cons?

I'm kinda partial to hard woods.
It tends to last alot longer if cared for.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's the one reason that we're leaning towards hardwood right now. But is a laminate easier to replace if part of it gets damaged?

I beleive to use laminate on something your going to walk on for say... yr's. It'll start to fall apart before a few scratchs in hardwood would bother you.
Granted refinishing a hardwood floor isnt that easy, but it's not that hard either.
Just time consuming.

We have Pergo, and I love it. Not sure about other laminates, but this stuff is tough as nails.
We considered very carefully being the parents of two boys [img]wink.gif[/img] Even the sales rep who stood to make more coin if we went with hardwood recommended the Pergo.

Hardwood's the best looking and the most durable, (& most expensive)...they do have some cool looking "Parquet"
flooring styles now-a-days that are easy to install (especially for do-it-yourselfers)......

Where people screw up the most with these is in not leaving the 1/2" expansion joint against all the walls.....(space is hidden by special moldings)

Laminate is cheaper and just about as durable as hardwood now. Plus its WAY easier to look after.

Its also easier to install (and quicker) than hard wood.

Shop around and see what's out there... I'm sure you'll find one or the other that you like. [img]smile.gif[/img]
